75th Thistle National Championship

Organizing Authority: The 2021 Thistle National Championship Regatta is organized by the Thistle Class Association (TCA) in conjunction with the Cleveland Yachting Club (CYC).    

1.  RULES   

1.1 Dance like no one’s watching. Sing along. Enjoy the moment 

1.2 Bring your own reusable cup.

2. PARTY INSTRUCTIONS                 

2.1  Kegs open as soon as boats come off the water. 

2.2  Bars open at 5 p.m. 

2.3  Dinner and music start at 6 p.m. 

3.  RADIO COMMUNICATION  

3.1 No radio required. We’ll provide the music! 

4.  ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY  

4.1  Must be 21 and over to drink booze.    

4.2  Must wear wristband as proof of eligibility to party.

4.3. Bring your own reusable cup. Yes, it needs to be said again!

Early arrivals, get set up and acclimated

Saturday, July 31

All day: Registration, measurement

Noon: Women’s National Championship, Youth National Championship

6 p.m.: Party with Mo’ Mojo, a hard driving, high energy, “Party-Gras” band. They take Zydeco music and infuse it with Americana, Cajun, reggae, rock & roll, funk, R&B and African and Latin rhythms.

Dinner available a la carte/pay as you go

Sunday, August 1

Noon: 75th Anniversary Race (Practice Race) – all boats on one line!

5 p.m.: Opening ceremonies

When you hear the bagpipes, move to the regatta tent.

Hearty hors d’oeuvres, libations at the clubhouse

Dress: Cocktail casual or kilt

Monday, August 2

11:30 a.m.: Qualifying Races 1 and 2

5 p.m.: Bars open; Moscow Mules will be flowing!

6 p.m.: Western-themed steak roast hosted by CYC’s R-class fleet, casual live music under the tent

Dress: Get your cowboy on — show us your best western style

Tuesday, August 3

11:30 a.m.: Qualifying Race 3 – Did you make the cut?

5 p.m.: Bars open; Margaritas will be flowing for Taco Tuesday

6 p.m. Game night: Off-the-water fun and games, dinner, live music (regatta tent); Can you say Bubble Soccer?

Wednesday, August 4

11:30 a.m.: Championship Races 4 and 5, President’s Division Races 1 and 2

5 p.m.: Bars open and let’s rum with it!

6 p.m.: Caribbean-themed pool party: Blender party at the pool, live music, with dinner mixed in there somewhere…

Dress: Show us your best Caribbean Cool

Thursday, August 5

11:30 a.m.: Championship Race 6, President’s Division Race 3 — It’s tight racing out there!

Open night: Explore Cleveland’s great food and nightlife

Friday, August 6

11:30 a.m.: Championship Race 7, President’s Division Race 4

5 p.m.: Cocktails

6 p.m.: Awards banquet 

Dress: Yachting attire — let’s put some effort into it, people!
